THE HISTORY OF OUR DELOREAN – #10902
In 1993, to mark the opening of the Back to the Future: The Ride attraction (permanently closed in 2007), Universal Studios organized a contest in which a completely original, unmodified DeLorean DMC-12 was offered as the prize.
Although the contest was held twice, both winners chose the cash prize, and the DeLorean remained for years in Universal’s storage facilities in Hollywood. It was later acquired by a studio employee who had also worked as a projection technician on the production of the BTTF The Ride short film.
Years later, the vehicle was acquired by DeLorean Europe and taken to Italy, where it was meticulously repaired and restored by a DeLorean specialist.
Finally, in 2018, it was purchased by a private collector and permanently transformed into a Time Machine, using almost entirely original period parts—the same ones used to build the original “A Car” from the first film, created by Kevin Pike and now on display, following a meticulous restoration in 2012, at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles.
